READ ISLAND RETREATS

Retreats are held on Read Island in the Discovery Islands of British Columbia. Brenda and Rieko are joint owners of the house on Read Island, part of a land cooperative built on a hill overlooking the Hoskyn Channel, Quadra Island and the snow-topped peaks of Strathcona Park. The surrounding land is 147 acres with plenty of room for hikes and wildlife viewing. Behind the house are Dragon and Wolf Hill with spectacular view hikes with lots of mossy, rock bluffs. A wood-fired sauna on the shoreline with bracing cool downs in the ocean completes the wilderness experience. Peace, silence and fresh air are conducive to the practice of Taoist meditation and Tai Chi, leaving you aglow with the surrounding beauty.

GETTING to READ Island From Vancouver:

Take the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Drive north on the Island Highway 1 about two hours until you get to Campbell River. Stay to the right to the Quadra Island ferry terminal. The ferries generally run on the half hour, so you will have to be on the 2: 30 PM or the 3:30 PM ferry to make the connection. When you get off the ferry, follow the signs to Heriot Bay and turn left on Cramer Road and right on Antler Road to the Heriot Bay government wharf. A stop at the local store for last minute goodies is always fun! Your boat will pick you up at the government wharf in Heriot Bay and bring you back from Read Island at the end of the retreat.  Be prepared for summer overloads and get to the ferry terminal at least 30 minutes before departure time.

THINGS TO BRING:

Warm clothes for cool evenings, rain jacket, flashlight, yoga mat and cushions for meditating, swimsuit, good walking shoes, towels, toothbrush, tooth paste, etc.
